#8: 13 Things to stop doing - and start writing - on Friday the 13th (and should you leave the house?)

It's always a good day to write - even on Friday's, but especially on the 13th day of the month. Here are 13 ways to get out of your own way today:

1. Stop looking at your phone the moment you wake up even through you promised yourself you wouldn't and that this morning would be different

2. Stop tidying your house; fluffing cushions, unpacking the dishwasher and wiping down surfaces in the hopes that words will appear on your screen

3. Stop looping between notifications on platforms designed to keep you distracted and consuming information you could probably live without

4. Stop thinking about what's for dinner - or in my case, trying to figure out what's for dinner so you can tell your husband to stop asking you what's for dinner tonight

5. Stop worrying why nobody liked your last post or wondering if you'd posted it at a different time you would have gotten a better response

6. Stop thinking about reading your book in the sunshine - ooh, maybe on the beach! - in the middle of a regular day. It's hard, but stop

7. Stop remembering small inconsequential things that need to be done every time you sit down to write - note them down and do them later

8. Stop scratching that thing on your face or thinking about that thing on your face you want to tweeze later - probably don't touch it

9. Stop organising the social lives of ten other people who won't even remember to thank you for your time and effort when said social plan actually happens

10. Stop looking at your list of ideas to write about and then writing something else because that's easier than writing the thing you actually care about

11. Stop forgetting to breathe deeply and sitting with an anxious clench in your chest because you've been procrastinating for four hours

12. Stop thinking about your long term goals on a short term action day; do one small thing today to move the needle, then do the same tomorrow

13. Stop worrying about Friday the 13th and if it's a thing and if you should leave the house or not, just in case (it's not a thing, but you shouldn't leave the house until you've done your writing, friend)

No excuses, now start writing.
Then, Friday and the world is yours.
