Shine on you crazy creative diamonds

It’s hard being a creative!

A creative freelancer, independent, business owner, solo- or entrepreneur. Wherever you are in your journey, there’s no guided path or ladder to this gig; it’s a calling, a desire to create, and a passion for another way to live. It’s a harnessing of the maverick spirit and a commitment to personal freedom that becomes your life’s work. But it’s true what they say; it’s not easy, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

It takes courage and deep resilience. It takes a lot of risk for incremental reward. It takes a pocketful of grit and a cupful of hot tears you’re not ashamed to shed. It takes a lot of iterating and adapting and consciously evolving; because that’s what the best kind of creative human does. It more often than not means being a diamond in the rough a lot longer than you’d probably like.

Being a creative keeps you on your toes. It requires you to come at each day with a fresh attitude, a belief that everything is figuroutable, a trust that you know who you are and where you’re going, and faith in your bright mind and majestic talent. And then, a whole lot of self-saucing spunk to motivate and champion yourself onwards - and sure, some days are easier than others.

But you get to choose it every single day; you actually get to create your life. These may not be easy days to be on this self-directed track; but if you’re sticking to the dream, shape-shifting as it may be, and even though the world has rocked your boat and you feel like you’re trying to swim after it in a life vest that didn’t bloody inflate, just know this:

1. You are not alone.

2. Plenty of us are still processing, recovering and creating this new-world way forward.

3. Learning is part of the journey and you can’t grow in a rush - or a panic.

4. Rooting yourself in authenticity trumps a quick fix in the long run.

5. Give yourself time, and then give yourself some more time. ✔️

6. Do what you can with what you can and don’t fret if it’s not the new-big-main thing just yet.

7. You are a hero! You really are, hang tight while your superpowers recharge.
