#30: Spend more time doing what you love: reflections on 30 days of writing and publishing

It’s the first time I’ve written and published 30 days in a row.

Ship30for30 has helped me build, not only a new writing practice, but a system for organising my ideas and managing my writing output — the lack of which was likely holding me back from writing at all and feeling very far away from this thing that I love.

Now that I know which way is up, I’m filled with optimism and the feeling that I’m in alignment with my purpose again.

Here are my reflections on the past 30 days:

Finding my voice

Reconnecting with my writing voice was one of my goals from the start. Each day I worked from a pool of juicy ideas, didn’t overthink or plan, just played into the energy I felt and incrementally stepped into my self and my voice as I went. Oh, so there you are. :)

New writing confidence

Hitting publish each day got me out of my own way and was a much-needed boost for my writing confidence after time away from regular writing. Writing alongside others like me, made me feel comfortable to take risks with my topics and explore myself.

Balancing the scales

The course was a digital writing education, but I’m taking what works for me and leaving the rest — to revisit another time, perhaps. I can’t cookie-cut myself into something too formulaic or forced; I’m committed to my integrity and creating the kind of stories I want to read.

Connection with self

Over the last month I’ve felt super-charged and inspired with a renewed sense of self-posession and vitality. I have a strong idea of where I’m focusing myself this year and the journey I must take to get there. It’s an exciting place to be and I can’t wait to keep going!

Connection with others

The community experience was such a value-add. Meeting people, some right at the start, and following their progress has been a kind of arm-linking encouragement to carry us to the end — and will hopefully be an ongoing lifeline as we grow forwards.

Creating my playground

By unpacking my niche themes into a greater writing-planning system, the creative playground in my mind came into digital existence: A dedicated space to write, work on ideas, drop thoughts and inspirations now exists in Notion and I can play there every day.

Knock-on effect

You’ve got to put yourself out there in your own words and allow yourself to be visible. The compound effect of this is literally writing yourself opportunities; people can see what you’re about and this sparks conversations, connections and collaborations.

I’m grateful for new opportunities aligning with what I want to do more of:

Think, write and create with words, craft immaculate brands and make them shine online.

It’s been a good month to create my life.
