Passing the pillow: we've sold our business!

It’s the end of a beautiful, creative chapter as my business partner Chantal Morgan and I have sold our little business, Otherness Events.

Otherness was always a side venture for us. A creative love project that we poured a lot of heart and soul into crafting and curating. And as we found; a canvas for our friendship to deepen and unfold in so many special and unique ways. We went on such a journey, my friend!

Back in 2017, we started with a whimsical dream to bring event spaces to life with quirky cuddle puddles and low lounges - events the way we liked them! Our mission was to create cosy spaces that bring all the elements of a good event together in the ultimate sweet spot - just add cushions. :)

We began collecting our inventory; sourcing treasures from markets and marketplaces, buying fabric and foam, and finding our way with CMT’s and cushion designs; slowly building up our decor kits and alongside it, developing our brand online. Those first few years were so much fun, they didn’t even feel like work.

Over our 6 year journey, we were part of some truly epic events and experiences. Creating our little pockets of magic along the way. Meeting and working with plenty wonderful people - and party throwers of note! Even doing a permanent Otherness lounge setup for a couple hosting workshops in their home in Hout Bay. The brief: “make if textural and fluffy” - yes, so many questions, exactly. Anyway, plenty of fun has been had!

With the opportunity to pass it on, and also, ‘keep it in the family’ we get to see its next iteration as a full time provider in Cape Town’s busy event space. Could not be more excited for our dear friend Jaime Gardner and her biz partner Chris to take it to the next level.

Yesterday, I received a single beautiful protea in a spring veggie box delivery from Babylonstoren, on it a tag saying; A new season awaits ✨ Quite fortuitous to receive as we signed and handed over, and indeed, life is flowing into an incredible new season for all of us.

For me, it’s making space for family life and a little creative writing project, and hopefully, new creative pursuits in the future. But first, more timeless precious time squeezing my baby and a bunch of naps. 🧡
